Travis the Translator is the first pocket-size instant voice translator using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, translating over 80 languages. It bridges the barriers between languages and allows international travelers and professionals to communicate with anyone, anywhere.

AI instead of an app
Travis the Translator is an independent device, not a mobile app, which the creators consider to be an advantage. “This means that you don’t always have to open your phone in order to look for the right word. Eye contact and non-verbal communication are therefore possible, which is important for understanding each other. In addition, Travis uses an enhanced built-in microphone, which also works in a busy bar.” said CEO, Brend Kouwenhoven.
Also, for best results, Travis in each language combination chooses the most appropriate translation software: from major translation engines as Google and Microsoft, to local ones.
Social Impact & Travis Foundation
In order to pursue its social mission, Travis has also partnered up with various social organizations such as Open Learning Exchange (OLE) or Movement on the Ground (MotG) to empower people and give everyone the right to be understood. Also, from the success of Travis the Translator, there was a discovery of significant inequality in digital resources across languages. While some languages are present in the digital world, able to be spoken, searched, translated and used in AI, half of the world’s population don’t have this luxury – and the language inequality gap continues to widen. This led the team to start Travis Foundation, an initiative built around developing lesser resourced languages as a means to both close the language inequality gap and preserve culture.
